Charles Darwin School

Praise and Reward

The school aims to promote high standards of behaviour, self-discipline and learning through positive encourgement and rewards.

Particular effort or achievement is rewarded in a number of ways.

Jack Petchey

Charles Darwin School is part of the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards scheme: a reward and recognition initiative which enables schools and youth organisations to celebrate the achievements of their young people as well as receive additional funding.

As a Jack Petchey Awards Gold school we are able to make nine awards during the course of the school year to recognise students’ outstanding effort or achievement both in and out of school.

Each month students and staff are invited to nominate a pupil from a designated year group and then have the opportunity to vote for one of the nominations in the ballot.

“The Jack Petchey Award is open to all year groups and across all subjects at Charles Darwin School,” explains Mrs Rees, Deputy Headteacher and co-ordinator of the award. “We see this as a valuable way of recognising the efforts and achievements of pupils as well as inspiring them and developing their self-confidence. It is always a pleasure to see how many committed and motivated young people there are at the local awards.”

Achievement Points

Charles Darwin School promotes high standards of behaviour, self-discipline and learning through positive encouragement and reward.

When students do something well, teachers will recognise this by speaking to them in class, writing positive feedback on work and giving high marks. This could include a good note in a student's planner.

Particular effort or achievement is rewarded by Achievement Points. Achievement points totals are communicated home via ‘Satchel One’ and on school reports, with leaders across the school named in ‘The Link’ newsletter.

Students collect Achievement points across Year 7-11 : Aspire points (for directing hopes or ambitions to achieve something through commitment and/or leadership); Endeavour points (for trying hard to do or achieve something) and Achieve points (for successfully bringing about or reaching a desired result)
