2024-2025 Jack Petchey Winners

September   2024      Year 10    Winner:   Jessica Khan
Reason:

Jessica is a gem in her year group, showing a mature and responsible attitude towards her GCSE’s.  She is supporting backstage in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ developing leadership skills further.  Her teachers are so complimentary about the qualities of kindness, thoughtfulness and having a thirst for knowledge which she possesses in abundance.  An all-round great Jack Petchey winner!!

October   2024      Year 11    Winner:   Ruby Varney
Reason:

Ruby received this accolade due to her outstanding commitment and passion for school, nominated by both peers and teachers alike.  She is conscientious, strives on a challenge and spends time helping and encouraging others.  Ruby is a true star of the year group and fully deserves this award.

October   2024      Year 13    Winner:   Scarlett Towersey
Reason:

Scarlett can only be described as an outstanding member of Charles Darwin School.  She diligently serves on the School Council, chairing this student group with integrity and maturity.  We hope her significant efforts towards achieving A grades in her A Levels are rewarded.  For the past seven years that she has been with us, she has been a true ambassador and an exemplary example to her peers.  We wish her every success in her next steps.

November   2024      Year 8    Winner:   Ivy Bird
Reason:

Ivy is described by her Head of Year as a wonderful member of the year group.  She was an active Year 7 and Year 8 School Council member alongside her hard work and kindness and generosity to others in lessons.  She is a committed performer in our school productions, dancing in both The Little Mermaid and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  She is described by her teachers as being a remarkable student, unfailingly courteous, polite and always approaching school life with a smile!  A very worthy winner.

January 2025               Year 9          Winner: Thomas Rice
Reason:

Tom is a young man recognised at school for his 100% diligence by all his teachers and peers.  He was recognised frequently for outstanding work with Golden Tickets, the school reward scheme linking to the school production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  A delight to teach, Tom will go far and deserves every success in the future.

February 2025             Year 7        Winner: Millie Austin
Reason:

Millie has won this award in Year 7 for her incredible resilience when transitioning to secondary school.  She has navigated the challenges of  life with such confidence and perseverance, including the learning of braille on the way.  Millie never gives up and has retained her sense of humour, loyalty and kindness, described by her peers as ‘just amazing in every way’.   Our school community looks upon you so proudly on your journey, Millie, and we look forward to standing next to you every step of the way!

February 2025             Year 8         Winner: Leah Benwell
Reason:

Leah won a Jack Petchey Achievement Award from Girl Guides.

March 2025             Year 11        Winner: Jonathan Oryema
Reason:

An exemplary student since Year 7, Jonathan has shown a fantastic attitude to learning, resulting in excellent progress being made in Year 11.  We are so proud and grateful for the contribution Jonathan has made to the school, especially as a Prefect, and we look forward to seeing the achievements Jonathan makes in the future.

February 2025             Year 12        Winner: River Dolke
Reason:

River joined Charles Darwin School in September of Year 12 and quickly made an impact in the Sixth Form.  Despite facing a significant personal bereavement, she showed remarkable resilience and character by organising charity fundraisers for Cancer Research outside of school.  River has continued to work diligently in her Sixth Form courses, being a real example to us all.  We wish her all the very best in her future.

March 2025             Year 12        Winner: Samson Smith
Reason:

Samson is one of those individuals you meet in life who brightens everyone’s day with his cheerful manner and upbeat attitude to life.  He is a real asset to both the school and through his volunteering in the local community.  A genuinely kind, caring individual, NOTHING is too much for Samson.  Please don’t ever change – the world would be a better place with more people just like you, Samson!

April 2025             Year 10        Winner: Beatrice Balogun
Reason:

Beatrice is a model student; she has excellent standards of attendance and punctuality, and is highly focused on her academic studies.  Her most recent report shows that she has an outstanding attitude to learning and is progressing well in all of her subjects.  Beatrice has a quiet but very kind and friendly personality.  She is a popular member of her form group and sets a great example for all her peers.
