Charles Darwin School

Year 7 team wins annual Bromley Borough rounders tournament

Over the last two Wednesdays, Charles Darwin School has hosted the Year 9/10 and the Year 7/8 rounders tournaments which are organised annually by Mrs Wray.

Our teams have shown real commitment during the season across all the year groups and there were some very strong performances, both in the league competition and the Bromley Borough tournament.

The Year 7 team won their Bromley Borough Tournament [see picture overleaf]. Having drawn one and won five of their group games they narrowly missed out on leading the group based on players out. They beat Langley Park School for Girls, who had won the other group, 6 1/2 - 6 in the semi-final and went on to beat Darrick Wood School in the final 4-2. Their outstanding fielding contributed to getting the entire team out before the end of time, with eight of the nine players being caught out.

The Year 9 team won all bar one of its group games, finishing second in their group and reaching the semi-finals. Here they narrowly lost to a very strong Hayes side who were eventual tournament winners. The girls’ fielding was outstanding throughout the day and they scored a total of 40 rounders overall.

“The teams have again had a fantastic final season with a similar performance to last year,” said Miss Case, Head of PE. “The girls have been extremely committed, passionate and as enthusiastic as ever to participate in this team and regularly turn up to training after school and during lunch times. The girls have a strong team bond which gives them a positive vibe for each game. Jemma Sargeant has done a brilliant job as captain for the U15 team this season developing her own leadership skills.”
