Year 6 into 7 Induction events

Charles Darwin School runs an extended induction programme for Year 6 students who will be starting here at the school in September, designed to help to make the transition to secondary school as smooth as possible. Key dates are outlined below.

Wednesday 13 June

The programme starts with the induction evening on Wednesday 13 June from 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm which all Year 6 families are expected to attend. Whilst some Year 6 children will be on residential trips with their primary school on this date, their parents should still attend as important information will be given out.

Thursday 14 and Tuesday 19 June

Following the induction evening, each family is expected to attend a ten minute student and parent interview on either Thursday 14 or Tuesday 19 June. This is an important opportunity for children to meet staff at the school before starting in September and we encourage everyone to attend. Families are asked to sign the home school partnership contract at the meeting and will have the opportunity to purchase school uniform, PE kit and stationery as well as being able to register for the cashless catering system operated by the school canteen. Details of how to arrange an interview time are included in the information pack which was sent home.

Friday 29 June or Tuesday 3 July

All students joining Year 7 at Charles Darwin School in September 2018 are asked to come into school on one of two dates to complete a cognitive ability test [CAT] ready for when they start in September. These tests are extremely important. The tests are held on either Friday 29 June or Tuesday 3 July from 8:50 am until 2.45 pm and further details are included in the information sent home.

Tuesday 4 September 2018

Year 7 students start the autumn term on Tuesday 4 September. Please note this is earlier than other year groups.

Saturday 29 September 2018

The Open Morning for Year 6 students moving on to secondary school in September 2019 is on Saturday 29 September 2018. Further details will be available at the start of the autumn term.
