Blowing a Storm
Former CDS student Stephen Peneycad hit all the right notes performing on the Daily Politics Show on BBC 2 last Friday. Trumpeter Stephen has just completed his music degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and it is wonderful to hear his talent being recognised.

Biggin Hill Festival
Many thanks to the Friends of CDS who literally “flew the flag” for Charles Darwin School at the Biggin Hill Festival on Saturday. They ran two stalls and generated lots of good publicity for the school. Proudly waving over the stalls was our new Friends teardrop flag. Designed by Graphics supremo Andy Chubb it ensured that the school name could be seen from all four corners of the Recreation Ground.
Andy’s work was also on show in the form of an exhibition of Art and Photography work done by students in the school. Organised by Svetlana Tomic this was displayed in one of the “Friends’” tents (shades of Tracy Emin) and again was an excellent way of bringing our work to public notice. My thanks to Andy, Svetlana, Dawn Cove, Laura Holmes, Shirley Murray, Ross Matthews and of course Howard Leigh for their contributions.

Snap Happy
We were delighted when asked by the Biggin Hill Horticultural Society to provide an exhibition of photography work by our Year 12 students for display in St. Mark’s Church Hall over the weekend. We were even more delighted when Keeley Snelgrove won first prize in their photography competition and Kristian Matthews won third prize. Congratulations to them both and my thanks, again, to Andy Chubb and Ross Matthews for setting up the display.

Lillian Groves
We have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Lillian Groves who was a Charles Darwin student until earlier this year. Her Form Tutor, Tony Page, said “Lillian was a quiet, shy girl who had a small but very close knit friendship group. She will be missed by her form who are devastated by her young life being cut short. She was always eager to please and had a happy personality and a ready smile”. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lillian’s family at this sad time.

Sports Day
My thanks to David Williams and the PE team for running last Friday’s Sports Day.
