Goodbye PTA … Hello Friends
Last Tuesday night we held the final meeting of Charles Darwin PTA. Not to worry, it is being reborn as the Friends of Charles Darwin School in order to embrace all those who have an interest in the school (former parents, former students, members of the local community etc.). At his final meeting as Chair of the PTA, Chris Allum oversaw donations to those areas of the school who had submitted bids: 2 portable air conditioning units for Bus/Voc
In addition the PTA donated over £3,000 to Design and Technology for a laser cutter. This has been a long standing target for the PTA. Although this will not cover the whole amount, members were impressed by Richard Baker’s entrepreneurship and ingenuity in finding/making the rest of the money. At the meeting I thanked Chris for his stewardship of the PTA over the last six years. Always on hand to support the school he has led by example and all the committee members recognised his great contribution. We then reformed as “Friends of Charles Darwin School” and Ruth Jewell was voted in as Chair. I was delighted not only with Ruth’s appointment but also that Karinne Marshall and Fiona Byfield have agreed to stay on as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. At the meeting we also made the final arrangements for the 70s/80s Disco which will take place on the last Friday of term (16th July). The cost is £5 and tickets are available from Sandra Griffin on Reception. Please buy a ticket, enjoy a fantastic event and support the school- all at the same time! |

Lillian Groves
We have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Lillian Groves who was a Charles Darwin student until earlier this year. Her Form Tutor, Tony Page, said “Lillian was a quiet, shy girl who had a small but very close knit friendship group. She will be missed by her form who are devastated by her young life being cut short. She was always eager to please and had a happy personality and a ready smile”. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lillian’s family at this sad time. Sports Day
