Proposed Alterations to Parking Restrictions in Jail Lane (part) and Old Tye Avenue (part) & The Introduction of a part-time 20mph speed limit in Jail Lane and Old Tye Avenue in the vicinity of local schools.
As you may recall, in July 2009, residents were consulted on a safety scheme; to introduce a 20mph speed limit along part of Jail Lane and part of Old Tye Avenue to improve road safety in the vicinity of local schools during school pick-up and drop-off times. Improvements to the junction of Old Tye Avenue/Jail Lane to improve pedestrian safety were also part of the consultation. Analysis of the responses showed that there was overall support for both of the proposals, though a number of respondents commented on the hazards caused by vehicle parking during pick-up and drop-off times and requested introduction of additional parking restrictions to support this safety scheme. For that reason, it was decided to amend the proposals to include additional waiting restrictions in the vicinity of local schools in Jail Lane and Old Tye Avenue. It is intended that, initially, these waiting restrictions will be introduced on an experimental basis and their effectiveness monitored. The experimental waiting restrictions would be made permanent 18 months after their implementation if they are proven to be successful. The period of operation of the additional waiting restrictions will match the existing restricted times for the keep clear zigzag lines outside the schools, which is Monday to Friday 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm The results of the consultation were reported to the Environment Policy Development & Scrutiny Committee and Portfolio Holder in November 2009. As a result, it was agreed to go ahead with both proposals and to amend the proposals to include the above mentioned additional waiting restrictions. Click on image below. It is expected that all of the approval proposals will be implemented in early Spring 2010 subject to contractor’s workloads and weather permitting. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Ken Bradford (details given below) who will be pleased to assist you. Yours sincerely,
Ken Bradford

Lillian Groves
We have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Lillian Groves who was a Charles Darwin student until earlier this year. Her Form Tutor, Tony Page, said “Lillian was a quiet, shy girl who had a small but very close knit friendship group. She will be missed by her form who are devastated by her young life being cut short. She was always eager to please and had a happy personality and a ready smile”. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lillian’s family at this sad time. Sports Day
