An Inspector Calls
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week we had a subject inspection by Ofsted. The area being inspected was Citizenship which covered not just Citizenship lessons, but also those areas of the curriculum which dealt with Citizenship issues. The inspector also looked at Student Voice and the way students felt about their role in the school. I am delighted to say that, although the report will not be out for some time, the verbal feedback was excellent. This is a relatively new subject for schools and practice nationally is varied with several weaknesses. We were commended on what we had achieved so far (special mention here to Sarah Read, Head of Citizenship who has produced the schemes of work). The inspector was impressed with the teaching and with the ethos of the school. Our pupils were excellent throughout and he commented on their good behaviour. All in all an excellent and worthwhile two days. Thanks too, of course to the students who were interviewed: Kelly Allum, Ben Hopkins, Mitchell Clegg, Andrea Baffour-Awah, Cynthia Martins, Michael Wimble, Lucky Brooke, Emily Best, Sam Caldicott, Joseph Brooks, Alan Lowing, Grace Beegan, Thomas Hollis, Nicole Seymour, Mitchell Downing, Ashleigh Harrison, Grey Woods, Alex Wade, Philip Montgomery, Toyosi Adeniyi, Scott Redhead and Gemma Roadnight. They were excellent ambassadors for the school Financial Management in Schools

Lillian Groves
We have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Lillian Groves who was a Charles Darwin student until earlier this year. Her Form Tutor, Tony Page, said “Lillian was a quiet, shy girl who had a small but very close knit friendship group. She will be missed by her form who are devastated by her young life being cut short. She was always eager to please and had a happy personality and a ready smile”. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lillian’s family at this sad time. Sports Day
